Sinclair Primary School, Southampton

Background

Sinclair is a small Primary school in Lordshill, Southampton. The school offers education for 3 - 11 years, including its own nursery class. Sinclair Primary School opened in September 2003, and has been in its current, purpose - built accommodation since January 2005.

The overall aim at Sinclair is to achieve the highest quality education for each individual child, coupled with a secure, happy and stimulating environment where children can develop confidence and grow in all respects.

Objective

The Head Teacher, Debbie Adamson, asked Infacom to design and build a new pupil centred IT infrastructure across the school. Debbie wanted the school to offer state of the art ICT and audiovisual teaching facilities with computer access for every child.

Solution

Working closely with Debbie to understand exactly what features and functions the ideal system would contain, our designer created a bespoke solution to meet her criteria and budget:

  • The system is based around a wireless network throughout the school. This allows teachers to link directly to information on the school server and the Internet while planning and creating their lessons.
  • There is universal provision of SMART Boards driven by state of the art Samsung P28 laptops running the latest SMART Notebook software.
  • Lessons are available on the network for interactive delivery in the classroom using the SMART Boards
  • We included a bank of wireless pupil laptops so that every child has access to a computer
  • We created a password protected “e-learning zone” on the school website where teachers can quickly and easily upload lesson material to the website. This allows children or parents to log in from home view the lesson materials. It also means that they can watch and listen to recordings of the lesson and homework assignments using SMART Recorder software.

Result

“We are so pleased with our ICT system. Everything works well and we are right on the cutting edge of modern teaching. Everyone at Infacom was so helpful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble.”
Debbie Adamson, Head teacher
